Greetings from Kelly

Hello!
My name is Kelly Fitzpatrick and I’m going to be one of your vice chairs for the 2008 UC Berkeley Model United Nations. I’m really excited to meet you all at the conference, and I’d like to introduce myself a little bit.

I’m a second year at UC Berkeley double-majoring in Political Science and History, with a minor in Spanish, and this is my first year participating in  Berkeley Model UN. I was drawn to BMUN because of my interest in
international relations, especially poverty alleviation in third world countries, which is something I’d like to pursue after I graduate from Cal. Other than studying and working to pay for school, I’m also a newswriter for Berkeley’s student newspaper, the Daily Californian, and I play on a co-ed basketball team.

Looking forward to getting to know you at the conference! I know it will be a great experience for all of us.

Hello, delegates!

My name is London, and I will be serving as your head chair for the 56th session of Berkeley Model UN. Our conference is coming up, and since we will be spending an entire weekend together very soon, I thought I would share a little something about myself to help break the ice.

I am a fourth year majoring in English, and this will be my last year with BMUN as I will be graduating in May. I hope to stay in the area working in Human Resources, but am also looking into enrolling in a teaching credential program upon graduation. I plan to teach English at community colleges within the state, and eventually move abroad to teach 9th and 11th grade English at international schools. I grew up as a third-culture kid, and having that background, I believe this career will allow me to channel my two, greatest passions: teaching and traveling.

Enough about me, though - I will be joined by two lovely vice chairs at the dias this year, and I will let them introduce themselves, so you can get to know them a little better as well. Seeing us decked out in preppy suits on the first night can be very intimidating, but I hope this blog will help make the first night less awkward. As a good friend of mine once told me, “It’s only awkward if you make it awkward.”

Once Kelly and Lauren post their first entries, I will be back to comment on what I am looking for in your position papers. Until then, feel free to pepper me with questions that you may have through this blog and I will be sure to respond as soon as I can.

I am looking forward to meeting you all :)
