Iran is currently in a politically unstable state to which the heads of state go as far to say, “Death to America” Iran is not backing down from its nuclear programs claiming that, “Nuclear energy is our definite right” without stating from what sources deem their power. Despite efforts in pressuring Iran with sanctions to their nuclear programs, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appears determine not to halt its program despite its many opposition towards it “vowing not to slow Iran’s nuclear program” Iran in its current state will pose an important topic in the “a nuclear free zone” as it deems itself as a key component of nuclear issue in the East.

Although and interesting article, it doesn’t tell us anything new. We already know Iran’s perceived nuclear ambitions. In terms of the topic, we can see this as an acting power balance between Israel and Iran. Neither of the countries are going to give up their ambitions unless the other does first. It’s like the cold war, and will take something drastic to actually change the position of either country. Frankly, I believe that Iran will have to be the first to back down, as Israel is always defiant.

Israel and Iran are both planning to use nuclear devices for the protection of their citizens. We need to understand that one will not back down from using nuclear equipments unless the opponet sacrfices their usage of nuclear equipments.

Ahmadinejad has, not just this once, but frequently and consistently stated that Iran will not back down in the face of any international pressure. The nuclear program has become a point of national pride in Iran, it shows that Iran will not succumb to other countries demands, it shows their strength. While it is quite obvious what Ahmadinejad’s current stance is, he may be forced to fold in the face of major gain. If Iran’s longtime enemy, Israel, was to give up its nuclear arsenal in favor of peace, Iran would not have nearly as much pressure to create the nuclear weapons in order to balance the power in the region. While Iran may back down, it quite obviously has taken a firm stance against succumbing to international pressure, so any resolution may be in vain.

In response to Azerbaijan’s assumption of our “nuclear arsenal” Israel would like to state that it is non-exsistent and Israel will not be the first to declare nuclear weapons in the region, but only as a defensive counter-measure. On a second note it makes little sense that Israel, who does not wield a nuclear arsenal should be asked to disarm, when a close neighbor of Israel is in CLEAR violation of the NPT and is not condemned for it.

Belgium agrees with Israel’s stance on the issue of Iran’s violation of the NPT. Iran had violated NPT with the knowledge of the treaty’s protocols and rules. Now Iran has failed to disarm appropriately under international pressure. Belgium wishes to remind Azerbaijan and The Republic of Yemen that the issue at hand concerns the state of Iran and not Israel at this very moment.
